China Travel and Facts about Visiting Beijing

A lot of my college budies have been emailing me lately and asking about Beijing and “all things tourist.” So in return I’ve decided to post a series of posts for China travellers and everything I would find useful.

Facts About Beijing Weather:

  • Winter sees the worst pollution with extremely high coal (used for heating) smog all around the city. It’s also very quiet, dirty, and “gray”. People tend to stay at home more, while all the students leave to visit their relatives.
  • Summer is the only humid season - prepare to sweat a lot and seat through many rainy days (nights actually). The rains also tend to be accomponied by a lot of thunderstorms (with a lightning every 3 seconds, these look simply UNREAL)
  • Fall is great, although sometimes a bit windy and cold (jeans, sweater, and a jacket). Car smog is also quite common.
  • Spring - expect high winds with bits of dust and sand.

Beijing Airport Taxi Costs:

Expect to pay around 80RBM but surely no more than 100RBM($13) to get to any part of the city. If you are on budget, just take the bus that runs about every half an hour and gets you to all major city points/subway. To find a bus just step outside of the airport building and then walk farther to the right. The ride is about 16RBM ($2). If you find yourself in problem naming the place (or whatever other language problems), just take any bus to city and then take a taxi/subway from there - will save you 60RBM for sure.
