Twitter might be done, but its Chinese Clone is Steadily Gaining the Market
TaoTao (to babble) is a new Twitter clone from the popular Chinese IM service QQ. With QQ’s major (particular) user base this might actually develop into something the twitter never even had a chance (sorry, not a big fan). In any case, here is what our friend at China Web2.0 Review had to say:
It seems Taotao copied almost everything of Twitter, you can use Taotao to update “what are you doing”(yes, Taotao also use it in its homepage) in less than 140 characters, it supports updating and receiving notification via QQ bot, mobile phone and web, you can follow the updates of your friends, and turn on/off the notification of your friends. Well, no widgets available so far.
One key to note here is of course “mobile phone!” Remember there are something like 400+ million cell phones in China, and most of them are used for nothing but constant twitter-like sms messages. I tend to refuse most web2.0 hype, but when an IM business gets into something IM-like then that might just be a whole different story.
